As a Result of Fatwa from Assembly of Muslim Scholars, the Board of Gafatar Aceh Dragged into Trial

ELSAM, Banda Aceh – Banda Aceh District Court held a hearing on a case of alleged blasphemy conducted by 6 (six) members of Fajar Nusantara Movement (GAFATAR) on Tuesday (14/4). The six denfendants are: Gafatar Aceh branch Chairman T. Abdul Fatah; Gafatar Banda Aceh regional Chairman Althar Mauloyul Muhammad Islam; Gafatar Aceh Deputy Chairman Musliadi; Gafatar Aceh Head of Information Fuadi Mardhatillah; Gafatar Aceh Secretary Ayu Ariestiana; and Rindha Hidayat.

The second session was to examine 3 (three) witnesses from Public attorney. He presented head of Detective Bureau of Banda Aceh Mahfud Musadi; Keuchik Gampong Lamgapang Adnan Amin; as well as Lamgapang Community leader DR. Mohammad AR.

During the hearing session, Mahfud Musadi stated that the board of Gafatar does not recognize prophet hood of Prophet Muhammad and Prophet Adam, when they were examined in Banda Aceh Police Department. However, Mahfud’s testimony was denied by defendants.

While Adnan Amin explained that he issued a residence permit to the Gafatar organization 20 days before the board was arrested by the police. “They asked residency permit because they used to live in a wedding rental shop. They have occupied the shop for quite a long time,” he said.

DR. Mohammad AR, in his testimony, said Gafatar is another name for Millata Abraham, because there is a photo of Ahmad Musadeq in Gafatar’s tabloid. “Ahmad Musadeq is a prophet of Millata Abraham,” he said.

Earlier, on January 7, 2015 the local community raid Gafatar office in Lamgapang village, Aceh Besar. The community considers Gafatar organization conducts blasphemy. In fact, according to the board of Gafatar, the organization is a social community organization that is based on Pancasila and concentrating on social work. As a result of the incident, the police took the board of Gafatar to Banda Aceh Police Department.

Interestingly, the Assembly of Deliberative Muslim Scholars (MPU) Aceh issued a fatwa on January 22, 2015 on Fajar Nusantara Movement (Gafatar). In the fatwa No. 1/2015, which was issued after the ambush, Gafatar organization is considered as misguided and misleading organization because it’s a metamorphosis of Millata Abraham and Qiyadah Al-Islamiyah. The board of Gafatar finally convened in Banda Aceh District Court on charge of blasphemy, as it is stated in Article 156 a of the Criminal Code.

Visitors of the second session, which went from 11:00 until 12:30, are dominated by masses who reject the existence of Gafatar and they made the proceedings unconducive. The judges will resume the trial on April 22, 2015, with an agenda to examine witnesses from the former members of Gafatar.
