Jopi Peranginangin was brutally murdered through beating and knife-stabbing cut through the lungs in the parking lot of Habibie Center 7 days ago on Saturday, May 23, 2015. But to this day, we cannot let it happened because the killers still swing freely.
Spokesman of Solidarity for Jopi, Jefry Saragih expressed his disappointment. “The investigation on the murder of comrade Jopi should have been able to quickly unfold because we have witnesses and CCTV footage that can be used as supporting evidences. But to this day it remains unclear,” said Saragih, activist in Sawit Watch (Palm Oil Watch).
As if the law cannot touch the killers who called themselves army before gang-stabbed Jopi. Seems like the hour turns backward to a time when the army was acting arrogant repressing civilians. It was not supposed to happen after 17 years of reform.
“Are we going back to the days of New Order regime, we are not. Especially now Indonesian Armed Forces has done a reform. So this case should be finished in order to continue army’s reform. Do not let this case set a precedent,” Saragih said.
The police and POM AL who supposedly investigate and uncover the gang-killer of Jopi work slowly. Uncovering and capturing the killers of Jopi are not only a justice for the families and colleagues, moreover, justice for Jopi is a signal to the public that a sense of security is quickly restored and law can be enforced to those who spread a threat.
Today, Saturday (May 30, 2015) more than 100 people from Solidarity for Jopi is gathering to sow flowers and prayers at the murder scene of Jopi in front of Habibie Center, Kemang.
SOLIDARITY FOR JOPI sends a message to the law enforcement to:
1. Within 7 days from today, the Jopi’s killers must be captured and revealed to the public
2. Stop manipulating this case through media and focus on the fact-finding
3. Work transparently and cooperatively in order to upright justice for Jopi and his family
4. Urge the government to hold civilian trials for perpetrators, despite their military profession. Commitment to reform by Indonesian Armed Forces Commander Gen. Moeldoko and Navy Chief of Staff Admiral Ade Supandi must be tested for its bias. Both generals who led Jopi’s killers must participate to monitor this case. Do not get justice for Jopi protracted and stop at the bayonet of Jopi’s killers.
